  • Welcome

The Senior School and Sixth Form Music department offers an extensive range of activities, covering a wide range of musical styles from classical to contemporary.

Our concerts and ensembles offer opportunities for students who are beginning their musical journeys to take part in suitable groups, challenge the most able performers to develop their skills to the highest level, and cater for everyone in between.

Discover below the incredible range of opportunities for students of all musical tastes and abilities.

    Director of Music

    Our facilities

Our school Hall is equipped with a brand-new Steinway Model D Spirio concert grand piano, a top of the range instrument which all our piano students are able to play in concerts.

In addition, the large, purpose-built music wing comprises three large class teaching and rehearsal spaces, one of which contains a modern Bechstein grand piano, alongside numerous rooms for individual lessons and practice.

    A calendar of concerts!

We perform around 25 concerts or events in a typical year; alongside concerts in school, we perform regularly at West Road Concert Hall, the Church of Our Lady and the English Martyrs, the Portland Arms, and a series of lunchtime concerts at Great St Mary’s and St Paul’s Church.

    Soloists and concert tours

Annual year group soloists’ concerts provide a supportive environment for performing in front of an audience, and student-run open mic sessions are a popular event for our pop and rock singers. We also run a bi-annual concert tour, taking the choir and chamber orchestra to perform overseas.

    Individual instrumental and singing lessons

A team of over 20 highly specialised visiting music teachers offers individual lessons on almost every orchestral and band instrument, as well as singing and piano.

    Scholarships

We offer music scholarships at 11+, 13+ and 16+ entry points.

Our music scholars lie at the heart of the department, and many go on to study music at university and conservatoire.

    Cambridge Junior School Music

Whatever your level, there are opportunities to perform. Our pupils work towards the annual Spring Concert in the University of Cambridge's West Road Concert Hall. Year 5 and 6 pupils take part in a Battle of the Bands competition at the Cambridge Junction, performing on the stage as such greats as Blur, Lou Reed and Coldplay!

    Dame Bradbury's Junior School Music

Music is everywhere at Dame Bradbury's! Everyone plays an instrument and over half our pupils take specialist music lessons. We have opportunities for all to perform; in lessons, assemblies and clubs, as well as in concerts, recitals and performer's platforms where families join us to hear the results of all that practice. All genres are explored, from classical and traditional to rock and electronic. Music is part of our core curriculum, with orchestra and choir integral to our timetable.
