  • Scholarships for prospective students

    We are committed to inspiring, recognising and rewarding exceptional talent in a wide range of areas. At Stephen Perse, scholarships reflect our ethos of nurturing all kinds of talent and rewarding excellence. Scholarships are available when joining the Senior School and Sixth Form and must be applied for in line with the general admissions process. Candidates can apply for and hold multiple scholarships.

    Scholarship awards start at 5% and the amount reflects the scholarship type and the candidate's performance. Year 7 scholarships are usually awarded until the end of Year 8. Year 9 scholarships are usually awarded until the end of Year 11.

    Academic scholarships

    Academic scholarships are awarded based on outstanding academic performance and potential. Applicants must show evidence of academic passion, intellectual curiosity and commitment to our values.

    How are academic scholarships assessed?

    Year 7 and Year 9 Year 12

     

    Awards are based on entrance assessment data.

     

    Applicants are invited to take part in written papers and an interview.

     

    Performance in entrance interviews may also be considered.

    Music scholarships

    Music scholarships are awarded to candidates who demonstrate exceptional music ability in one or more instruments and/or voice. Candidates are assessed on their practical performance ability and commitment, and involvement in musical activities, both within and outside of school.

    How are music scholarships assessed?

    Year 7 and Year 9 Year 12

    Video submission

    Candidates are shortlisted based on the submission of a videoed performance.
     

    Audition

    In auditions, shortlisted candidates will be asked to:

    • Perform two contrasting pieces*
    • Take part in an aural test
    • Interview with the Director of Music

    Audition

    Candidates are invited to:

    • Perform a 10-15 minute recital on their main instrument or voice*
    • Interview with the Director of Music
    *an accompanist will be provided or candidates may make their own arrangements

    Sport scholarships

    Sports scholarships are awarded to those  with exceptional sporting ability, potential, and a record of high achievement in a range of sports, including one of our major school sports; cricket, football, hockey or netball.

    How are sports scholarships assessed?

    Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12

    Assessment

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to:

    • Take part in activities which assess their physical and technical sporting ability
    • Interview with the Director of Sport

    What level is expected?

    Year 7 Year 9 and Year 12

     

    Candidates should participate in sport outside the school setting. 

     

    Candidates should have the ability to compete at a representative level e.g. elite, county, regional or national, in one of our major sports.

     

    Candidates should be playing at county (or equivalent) level in one of our major sports.

     

    Candidates would generally be playing in two A teams at their current school.

    Drama scholarships

    Drama scholarships are awarded to passionate performers who demonstrate exceptional talent and experience in the performing arts.

    How are drama scholarships assessed?

    Year 9 and Year 12

     

    Candidates are shortlisted based on the information provided within the application. This should detail relevant roles and experiences, and qualifications (LAMDA grade) 
     

    Audition

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to:

    • Take part in a audition speech
    • Interview with the Head of Drama

    Candidates should have a strong record of commitment to school drama.

    Art scholarships

    Art scholarships are awarded to talented artists with exceptional portfolios and a strong dedication to their craft.

    How are art scholarships assessed?

    Year 12

     

    Candidates are shortlisted based on the statement written in the application and a portfolio of artwork.
     

    Assessment

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview with the Head of Art.

     

    What level is expected?

    Candidates should be studying GCSE Art and applying to study A Level Fine Art or Textiles

    Design Engineering scholarships

    Design engineering scholarships are awarded to talented students with exceptional technical skills and a creative approach to problem-solving.

    How are design engineering scholarships assessed?

    Candidates are shortlisted based on the statement written in the application which outlines any experience, projects or awards they have been involved in. 

     

    Candidates submit an A3 portfolio documenting visual evidence or practical work, problem-solving and creative design work

     

    Assessment

    Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview with the Head of Design Engineering.

     

    What level is expected?

    Year 12

     

    Candidates should be studying GCSE Art and Design or GCSE Design Technology, and apply to study A Level Design Technology.

    When do assessments take place?

    Those who are shortlisted will be invited into the Senior School to take part in auditions/assessments in January.

    Year 12

    Those who are shortlisted will be invited into school to take part in auditions/assessments on a convenient day for the candidate, in late November/early December. 

    Other forms of financial assistance

    Scholarship candidates and holders may also apply for financial assistance in the form of a bursary. More information can be found on our Financial Assistance pages. Bursaries are assessed and determined before a scholarship is applied. Therefore, the scholarship amount will be applied to the remaining fee after the bursary, e.g. a 50% bursary and a 50% scholarship would amount to 75% overall fee remission.
