The European Day of Languages is held on 26 September every year. It is organised jointly by the Council of Europe and the European Union to celebrate linguistic diversity in Europe and to promote language learning.

Pupils doing activitiesThis year at Dame B's we considered the importance of learning another language, not only because of the opportunities for travel, making friends and understanding others but also because of the key skills we acquire and the benefit to our minds. As well as a special language assembly, we incorporated different languages and cultures into our lessons.

Pupils and staff who speak another language impressed us all with a quick taster and we enjoyed identifying languages in a fun game. Our school library boasts an impressive collection of dual language books and pupils were encouraged to share their language or culture with their friends.
