IB success for the Class of 2018

Published on 16/07/18

On International Baccalaureate results day, we celebrate the inspiring young people who will now be leaving us to study all over the world - bright futures are in store!

Recognised by universities worldwide, the IB develops academic independence, giving a breadth of skills and knowledge fit for the 21st century.

In 2018, 38% of our students achieved a score of 40 points or above, with a 36 point average score overall (the global average was just 30 points this year). Our IB Class of 2018 are now moving on to universities all over the world, from Toronto to Stanford to Oxford, reading a diverse range of subjects, from Fine Art to Liberal Arts to Engineering.

Naomi Atkins, Head of 6th Form, comments:

"We are immensely proud of our IB students, not only for their results and university destinations but for the rounded young leaders and pioneers they have become - they each have their own story and they leave us ready to make their mark on the world."

Our students this year truly reflect the IB's philosophy of 'international-mindedness', from running Cambridge’s first ever high-school level Model United Nations conference to competing at diverse sporting, academic and arts events. The IB Class of 2018 have offered such inspiration to younger students and we wish them the brightest of futures and look forward to hearing about where their journey takes them.

A note on the IB Diploma

Recognised by universities worldwide, the IB develops academic independence, giving a breadth of skills and knowledge fit for the 21st century.

The IB Diploma was introduced to the Stephen Perse 6th Form College in 2008 with tremendous success. The College has been awarded Sunday Times IB School of the Year twice now, in both 2010 and 2013.

Over the last five years, our remarkable IB results have included five perfect scores of 45, and a rolling average of 39.2 points. The UK average in 2018 was 34 points, with the global average around 30 points. Scores of 40 points or more out of the maximum of 45 place students in approximately the top 8% of students in the world.

The IB Diploma is taken by about 150,000 students globally each year. Students study 6 subjects (3 Higher and 3 Standard Level) from across the subject areas. All students study a 'core' of extended essay, theory of knowledge and creativity, action & service.

The IB Diploma is highly prized across the world as a gold standard for university entry. Candidates from the Stephen Perse Foundation have secured places across the full range of disciplines in the UK and several students have taken their IB qualification overseas to study in the USA, Canada and Europe.
